Before the arrival of the regime that currently misgoverns Cuba, Cárdenas enjoyed an educational environment full of institutions that delivered a high quality of education to the children of the city. Over and above Cárdenas' public elementary schools, of which the author's father is a product, the population of 60,000 people was also served by the following schools:
