Introduction
The idea of
this FAMILY DIRECTORY was born of a Family Barbecue at our home
in Miami, Florida, on Memorial Day weekend, 2005. It grew
out of our recognition that families tend to drift apart as time passes,
and out of our desire to at least attempt to slow down the
drifting for the members of our more recent generation - as well
as our own. As we continue to grow into our roles as Papis,
Mamis, Tios, and Tias, and look forward to becoming Abuelos and
Abuelas, we look back at the dwindling members of our parents'
generation and acknowledge love bestowed on us by those who came
before us and try to pass their legacy on to our posterity.
Togetherness is part of our family history, especially in the
Iturrioz family line. Sundays at Retiro Josone in Varadero
were once an almost mandatory family ritual for our parents and
grand-parents. The oldest family tree of which I am aware
was the one constructed by Tio Josechu in the late 40s or the
early 50s. Well, the days of Tio Josechu and Tia Onelia
have long passed, but not the days, memories and love of their
family.
Silvia and
I want to share this work with you so you can share it with your
children. Silvia's side of the family consists of the
Matos-Garcia and Ortega-Vadel lines. My lines are de la
Fe-Flores and Vadillo-Iturrioz. Construction of this
directory will probably continue for some time, as everyone
sends us their info (and updates it), We'll share it with you
every step of the way as a work in progress. So come back
and check on it every once in a while. Hopefully our kids
will at least know who their cousins are, and develop a sense of
their place in our family history and geography. And, just
maybe us too.
Besos y abrazos,
Ernesto Juan de la Fé Vadillo Flores Iturrioz
