Subject: First Few Days
Hey Dad,

In Monterosso.

Thought I'd give a little summary of what's happened on our trip so far. First day was a little confusing because of the language barrier and getting on our first train to Genoa was a little frustrating. Once we got into Genoa we took the bus to our Hostel, all the way at the top of the city. Believe me when I say that it took an hour to an hour and a half to get to the bottom.

I think that is partially why we decided to leave and just head to Florence a little earlier than planned.  I knew that being with Marisel and her friends would be more fun and we would have a better time in Florence because of the better night life.

The first day in Florence, Marisel took us all around and we saw where everything was. Then we all went out and had a blast at a bar where they would serve 3 monster drinks for 10 euro ($12.50). It was a great opener to our trip. We went to Cinque Terre today and only hiked the hard part between Monterosso and Vernazza, mainly because we were pressed for time from the trains. It was beautiful though, many pictures were taken.

I haven't been able to upload photos yet because I don't have my USB cord, I'll try when Mat gets here, but A.J. has uploaded his at the website below.  Anyway, Marisel and her roommates went to Milan today, and will be back from Venice on Friday.

Marisel brought up the idea to her roommates that maybe we can stay in their apartment while they were gone. Her roommates were very nice about it and said it was ok.  I guess we save anywhere from 60 to 80 euro because of that.  (I'm very lucky to have such a great girlfriend).

We ended up waking up today around 3:45, I guess because we haven't gotten much sleep since the plane trip into Milan.  Since we woke up kind'a late everything was closing down by the time we got out... haha.  So we have been just walking around Florence and getting the feel of the place.  I think we may hit up the Duomo and Uffizzi in the next couple days and go to Pisa on thursday.  I'll let you know how everything went in the next e-mail, probably at the end of the week. Anyway, Florence is great and we are having a fun time so far.  Send my love to mom, peter and everyone else.
